DALLAS — Severe storms brought incredibly strong winds to the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Tuesday morning.

Numerous places saw wind gusts peak well over 70 mph, with DFW Airport even reaching 77 mph.

The winds at the airport appeared to be strong enough to move an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 away from its gate.

Check out the video below:

American Airlines released a statement saying the winds affected several parked, unoccupied aircraft and that there were no injuries.

Maintenance teams are working to conduct inspections and make any necessary repairs, according to the airline.

A domestic flight of Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has returned to its departure airport after a crack was reported on the cockpit window of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft midair, an airline spokesperson says. Flight 1182 was en route to Toyama airport on Saturday but headed back to the Sapporo-New Chitose airport after the crack was found on the outermost of four layers of windows surrounding the cockpit.

The spokesperson said there were no injuries to anyone on board. ANA flight NH1182 was flying from the city of Sapporo in Hokkaido to Toyama, on Japan’s main island, Honshu. The plane, a Boeing 737, landed back at Sapporo’s New Chitose airport at around 12.10 p.m. local time, the BBC reported.

A spokesperson for ANA, Japan’s largest carrier, said that the crack had been found as the flight passed over Hakodate. “The crack was not something that affected the flight’s control or pressurisation,” the spokesperson said.

The plane headed back to the airport where a safe landing was carried out, BBC reported. Aviation expert John Strickland said the cause of the crack was still unknown. There were 59 passengers and six crew members on board. Alternative flights were arranged for the passengers.

This is the second incident involving a Boeing 737 model aircraft in as many weeks. However the ANA flight was not one of Boeing’s 737 MAX 9 airplanes, but an earlier version which was “by no means old”, Strickland said.

All Boeing 737-9 aircraft have been grounded by the US aviation regulator the FAA after an Alaska Airlines plane suffered a blowout that saw a cabin panel fall off a new plane in mid-air, leaving a gaping hole in the side of its fuselage last week, BBC reported. That plane, carrying 177 passengers and crew, had to make an emergency landing in the US state of Oregon.

Kenya Airways’ head cargo commercial Peter Musola announced that they will be starting a twice-a-week freighter service to Mumbai, with its newly inducted Boeing 737-800 freighter, via Sharjah from January 15, 2024.

With the routing Nairobi-Sharjah-Mumbai-Nairobi, KQ has plans to expand the frequency to four times per week.

Kenya Airways inducted the new aircraft in November 2023 and is planning to add the second B737-800 freighter in February 2024. This will take KQ’s freighter fleet to 4 aircraft as it already operates two Boeing 737-300 freighters, primarily for the Africa region.

He made the announcement while speaking at a panel discussion on pharma logistics at the India International Cargo Show (IICS) 2023 in Mumbai on Thursday (Dec 14, 2023).

With a range of up to 7 hours, the new aircraft will offer 20 tonnes of cargo capacity to and from its Nairobi hub. Kenya Airways already operates twice-daily passenger service to Mumbai with its Boeing 737-800 aircraft which has a belly capacity of one tonne.

Talking to STAT Media Group about the demand KQ is witnessing in Mumbai and India, Musola said, “The products include pharmaceuticals, spare parts, machinery, high tech, consumer goods and electronics. India is a strong manufacturing country and it is becoming a manufacturing giant. Most of these products are in demand in Africa and we want to leverage this as an airline.”

He also pointed out that 20 percent of all pharmaceuticals manufactured in India end up in Africa. “So Kenya Airways is looking into tapping these opportunities,” he said.

Talking about further expanding its services and reach in India, Musola noted that it considers Mumbai International Airport as its entry point to India while the airline is exploring opportunities including flying to new Indian destinations.

“We are not sufficiently servicing our customers in the Mumbai market because we are only offering belly capacity which is limited. So we will first grow that segment and once it is developed, we will go to the other markets.

While the Nairobi based airline is planning to expand its fleet, operations and destinations, in a recent December 2023 update Kenya Airways informed that it is expecting disruptions and even grounding of aircraft due to shortage of spare parts.
