British Airways passengers have been left £1,000s out of pocket after a payment error. Some British Airways passengers have been mistakenly charged twice after booking flights and holidays through its website this month, the airline has confirmed.

Some British Airways customers who booked flights and package holidays on Monday 1 January 2024 have been charged twice due to an error. Pink Velvet tweeted on Twitter/X: “Can you please advise why you have charged my credit card twice for flights and seats to Tokyo? Has taken me over my credit cap and caused financial problems issues!”

Guy said: “@British_Airways I’ve been charged twice for my flights, now in my overdraft. I’m unable to get through on the phone or chat, I just get a message you’re too busy and to try later. I need this correcting asap and are you going to convert any fees that I’m charged by the bank?”

Dean said: “@British_Airways you’ve taken £4,200 out of my account twice to pay for my flights (taken not pending). Rang BA & told it’s a known system issue and the refund will take 3 days. How can you take >£4K more than you’re entitled to and not send a single email to explain the error?”

BA has said “all refunds” have “now been processed and should arrive in customers’ accounts shortly”. Rachel tweeted: “The same has happened to me. I’ve just managed to speak to someone who said they’re aware of the problem. BA might like to have addressed this with their customers!!”

BA replied to one passenger saying: “We’re aware of an issue which has caused a duplicate charge to appear on some customers’ accounts following transactions made on 1st January, which is being reversed as quickly as possible. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.”
