BRITISH Airways is launching a new route between the UK and Turkey, with flights for next summer.

Brit holidaymakers can already start looking forward to next summer, with an extra flight announced to an up-and-coming destination in Turkey.

British Airways will be launching a new flight between London Heathrow Terminal Five to Izmir in Turkey.

One weekly flight will depart from London Heathrow Airport every Saturday at 7.30am, arriving in Izmir at 1.30pm local time, with a flight time of four hours.

Return flights from Izmir to London Heathrow, with British Airways, will depart on the same day at 2.35pm.

Flights from London Heathrow to Izmir are set to take to the skies in May 2024.

The flights will run throughout the summer until September 2024.

Return journeys can be booked for as little as £146 on the British Airways website, here.

The UK flag carrier also operates other routes between the UK and Turkey, with flights landing in holiday hotspots like Istanbul, Antalya, Bodrum, and Dalaman.

Set on Turkey’s west coast, Izmir is a growing holiday destination among Brit holidaymakers because of its coastal location.

Izmir has nearly 2km of coastal complete with sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.

Another one of Izmir’s main draws is its weather, with temperatures climbing to 26C in May and as high as 34C in August.

The Turkish city has also been named by Lonely Planet as one of next year’s best cities in its “Best in Travel 2024” list.

Lonely Planet wrote: “A city that prides itself on living the good life, İzmir’s seaside location, fresh Aegean cuisine, and blend of rediscovered heritage and revitalized contemporary culture merits a turn in the spotlight.”

And British Airways aren’t the only airline launching new flights to the Turkish city in 2024.

Earlier this year, Jet2 also announced new flights to Izmir for next summer.

The airline will add an extra 75,000 seats to some of its best-selling destinations in Turkey, Croatia, Greece, Spain, Italy, and Portugal.

Earlier this month, British Airways announced its return to London Stansted for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
